Why does a light meter need the camera? Light is measured from the exposure the camera settles on. No photo or video is ever captured, kept, or transmitted — the app reads the exposure setting, not the picture.
Why is the lux reading called an estimate? A phone camera measures light reflected off whatever it is pointed at, not light falling on the scene. Converting one to the other means assuming how reflective the scene is. Meso Lux assumes 18% — the standard photographic grey — and says so rather than implying a precision it does not have.
What is the cd/m² figure? Luminance: what the camera actually measured, with no assumption applied. If you want the raw measurement rather than the inference, that is it.
How do I get an accurate reading? Point the camera at the surface you care about, from the position that matters, and keep your own shadow out of it. For comparing places, keep the method the same each time — consistency matters more than absolute accuracy.
Why does it ask for location? Only to tag recorded sessions with where they were taken, so you can compare one place with another. It is optional and the app works fully without it.
