My readings seem low. Rest the phone directly on what you are measuring. A thick case, a cushion, or even a tablecloth damps the vibration before it reaches the sensor.
What is mm/s and why not g? Vibration standards are written in velocity because it tracks the energy going into a machine's mountings. Acceleration exaggerates high frequencies, so the same reading in g can look alarming when nothing is wrong. You can switch units, but the severity bands only apply to mm/s.
Where do the severity bands come from? ISO 20816 for small to medium machines: 0.71, 1.8 and 4.5 mm/s mark the boundaries between good, acceptable, tolerable and severe.
What is crest factor? Peak divided by RMS. A smooth rotation sits near 1.4. Much higher means impacts — a loose part, a worn bearing — rather than steady running.
Is this a real vibration analyser? No. It is a screening tool using a phone's motion sensor. It will tell you whether something changed or whether a reading is unusual; it will not replace calibrated equipment, and it cannot resolve above about 50 Hz.
Does the app track me? No analytics, no accounts, no servers. Read the full privacy policy.
